It’s Thanksgiving Time

Thanksgiving…a time to gather with family and friends to give thanks to God for His blessings to us. The “First Thanksgiving” was celebrated by the Pilgrims after their first harvest in the New World in 1621. This is how we celebrate Thanksgiving Day in our home.

A Thanksgiving Blessing you can read at your dinner table:

Psalm 100:4-5
Enter His gates with thanksgiving and His courts with praise; give thanks to Him and praise His name. For the LORD is good and His love endures forever, His faithfulness continues through all generations.

Psalm 138:1-4
I will praise You, O LORD, with all my heart; before the gods I sing Your praise; I will bow down toward Your holy temple and will praise Your name for Your love and Your faithfulness, for You have exalted above all things Your name and Your word. When I called, You answered me; You made me bold and courageous. May all the kings of the earth praise You, O LORD.

We each take a turn around the dinner table to say what each one is thankful to God for. Lord, we thank You for Your presence in our lives. Thank You for all of our blessings, our family, our friends, our neighbors. We pray You bless every family in our country and around the world. Bless us with thankful hearts. Shine Your light upon us. We thank You for Your provisions. Thank You for our food and bless it to our bodies in Jesus’ name, Amen.

The house smells with the wonderful aromas of the Thanksgiving turkey, sweet potatoes, green beans, squash and corn casseroles, and everyone’s favorite, home-baked yeast rolls. For dessert, home-baked pumpkin pie and whipped cream, key lime pie and freshly brewed coffee and tea. Everyone plays dominoes and other fun table games. It’s a fun night for all as we share with family and friends.
