Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park

Most people are drawn to lighthouses. Lighthouses symbolize safety and security to the seafaring traveler and have been around for thousands of years. Lighthouses are everywhere…

Ponce de Leon named this area “Cape of Florida” when he led the first Spanish expedition to Florida in 1513. The Cape Florida lighthouse, the park’s best known feature, was completed in 1825 but was damaged during the Second Seminole War. The repaired tower was completed in 1846, remains the oldest standing structure in Miami-Dade County. The lighthouse is 95 feet tall with 109 steps.

Just like the lighthouse operates to guide the traveler…Jesus guides us with His light. Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.” John 8:12
