The season of Advent begins with the fourth Sunday before Christmas. “Advent” is a Latin word meaning “the coming.” During the season of Advent, Christians across the world prepare for the celebration of the coming of the Lord into the world through the birth of his Son Jesus Christ. Advent is a time to celebrate light in the midst of darkness, as symbolized best by the Advent wreath.
O Come, O Come, Emmanuel
And ransom captive Israel
That mourns in lonely exile here
Until the Son of God appears
Rejoice! Rejoice! Emanuel
Shall come to thee O Israel.
Jesus is our Immanuel…God with us!
The first candle is lit on the first Sunday of Advent represents the hope of Jesus’ arrival…HOPE
The second candle is lit on the second Sunday of Advent represents the Bethlehem candle…PEACE
The third Sunday of Advent is observed with the shepherd’s candle…JOY
And the fourth Sunday of Advent is observed by the lighting of the angel’s candle…LOVE
Since my daughter was five years old we’ve been celebrating with the Christmas Advent. Now my daughter is twenty and my son is ten and the three of us are blessed every Christmas by making it our devotional time together each night.
Christmas is about worship….worshiping the Lord God for His amazing grace to us at Christmas by giving us His very best…Jesus is the greatest gift of all…
Wishing you and your family the merriest of Christmas and a wonderful New Year 2014 !
